Kirkbymoorside Town Mayor’s Christmas Message

On behalf of the Town Council may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

It has certainly been a year of opposites. 2022 marked the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and we enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on 5 June with a wonderful parade through the town led by the Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band. The event was a joyous occasion, bringing everyone together in what felt like a very long time.  Then, in September we mourned the death of Her Majesty and welcomed the new reign of King Charles III. The reading of the Proclamation presented another opportunity to bring people together and reflect on what it means to serve your country and community.

It's not just the royal family that has been a point of focus this year, Kirkbymoorside has its own hero in the form of Tatyana Heard representing England and the Red Roses in the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup.

Whether by representing our country through sporting prowess or keeping our town looking beautiful, I reflect on how apparent it is that the people of Kirkbymoorside are proud of our community.

At this time of year, walking around town with ‘Bob’ the dog, I can’t help but smile when I take in all the Christmas decorations, festive lights and the beautiful window displays. This year's best dressed window display is courtesy of 'Charlotte Elizabeth' on Crown Square, followed by 'Something Special' on Market Place and 'Cafe Williams' on West End as runners-up. Thank you to all the businesses and residents for making the town look so festive.

Walking through Kirkbymoorside you’re only ever a few footsteps from a friendly “hello” or a cheerful “Merry Christmas”. This is my first year as Town Mayor and I would like to extend that cheery greeting and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

What will 2023 have in store? Well, at least one Coronation, but whatever else I know that the Town Council and the good folk of Kirkbymoorside will embrace it and tackle it head on!

Wishing you all the very best.
